USGBC Ohio Southwest Region is a Sustainability Advocate sponsor of the Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit, an event that will explore new and promising areas of environmental sustainability, while also taking a deeper look at the issue of equity.
We explore why equity is often overlooked in the discussion around sustainability, and the ways in which new economic opportunities can be pursued that are both socially and environmentally just. To underscore this point, the keynote speaker this year is Van Jones. Jones is, among many things, a leader working to build an equitable green economy. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in linking the economy, the environment and social justice, notably through initiatives he has founded such as The Dream Corps, Green for All and Rebuild the Dream.
Highlights for this year’s Summit:
- A keynote address by Van Jones (see full bio here:
- A lunchtime awards ceremony honoring area small business leaders who have successfully incorporated sustainability into their business practices
- Breakout sessions where attendees can dive deeper into issues such as energy conservation, water quality, local food access, outdoor recreation, sustainable business supply chains and waste reduction.
Each year, we seek to widen the table for discussion around the issue of environmental sustainability. We bring together a broad audience of professionals who seek to engage in thoughtful discussion, share best practices, celebrate the work that is currently being done in sustainability throughout the Midwest and identify areas for future regional collaboration. We invite all who are interested to join us on June 9 and be ready to deepen your understanding and expand your network.
