Board of Directors Slate for 2014-2015 Term Posted by admin on 11/11/13 in Chapter

A message from Board President Steve Melink:

Dear USGBC Cincinnati Regional Chapter Members:

Our board is very pleased to submit 7 nominees for this year’s board elections for the 2014-2015 term.   Please review their qualifications below and vote for only 5 of them. Elections will run between 11/15/13 and 11/28/13.  I will announce the 5 elected board members with the most votes at the end of this two week period.

Please note that three of our nominees are current board members who are interested in serving a second term.  It should go without saying there is often tremendous value in retaining talent and that their contributions over the last two years should speak for themselves.  The other candidates are either former board members who continue to show a commitment to sustainability or new talent that wants to help us continue growing.

1. Andy Plogsted | GBBN | Cincinnati | Architecture

Andy is current Secretary of our Chapter and has performed above and beyond the president’s expectations.  He has not only been a valuable recorder and leader at our meetings, he has actively participated as a member of the Executive Committee and is actively engaged with the General Circle and with Ohio Schools.  Andy is an architect and  LEED AP and the sustainability leader at GBBN.

2. Jim Ratliff | Champlin | Cincinnati | Architecture

Jim is current Membership Chair of our Chapter and recently inherited that responsibility after the previous chair relocated.  In a very short time, he has demonstrated the ability to get things done by working with our Chapter Administrator and others to test and begin to implement a software package that will allow us to manage new and existing members and dues.  Jim is a LEED AP BD+C, O+M at Champlin Architecture.

3. Dave Meyer | KMK Law | Cincinnati | Legal

Dave is a current board member and Partner at Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL.  He has expressed an interest and willingness to serve for another two-year term and recognizes he has not been as actively involved as he would like due to other responsibilities.  He believes he will have more time in the future and would like to help advance our cause of mainstreaming green buildings.

4. Tom Kennedy | Self-Employed | Cincinnati | Engineering

Tom is a founder, board member, and still one of the most active members in our Chapter.  He heads up the Events and Education Circles to not only promote broad-based education in sustainability, but also provide an opportunity to obtain continuing education credits for LEED AP’s.  In addition, he attends most every board meeting, general circle meeting, and event that the Chapter hosts.

5. EZ Housh  | Green Source | Cincinnati | Data Centers

Ez is a former board member, LEED AP BD+C, and owner of Green Source.  His building was recently improved to LEED Platinum EB Certified and is often used to host green-related functions for education and training.  Ez has a passion for sustainability in the built environment and would like to contribute in areas where he has expertise, including contracting, community relations, and board experience.

6. Holly Christmann | Hamilton County | Cincinnati | Government

Holly is a founding board member of our Chapter and has more than 17 years of experience in the environmental field and non-profits in general.  She has expressed an interest in reconnecting with USGBC and expanding the green building movement as it aligns with the mission of Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services.  Her strength is relationship building and public relations.

7. Eric Anderson | KZF Design | Cincinnati | Architecture

Eric is an AICP and LEED AP ND at KZF Design, and specializes in community and transportation planning.  He states that he has a passion for USGBC’s vision and has helped indirectly work toward our Chapter goals through various projects in which he has been involved.  He comes recommended by the president of KZF and others on the management team who know his passion and ability to help get things done.

Separately, we are also pleased to inform you that 5 new board members have been appointed for the 2014-2015 term.  Our bylaws give the board the prerogative to appoint an equal number of board members in order to be able to recruit strategic talent that might not otherwise be possible.

They are as follows:

Larry Bridge | P&G | Cincinnati | Manufacturing

Larry works in Facilities and Real Estate for the Global Business Services group.  He is also a charter member of the Greater Cincinnati Green Business Council.  He is actively engaged in sustainability initiatives at P&G and also helped us secure the keynote speaker from P&G for the Greening the Heartland Conference we hosted in Cincinnati in 2011.  His influence through P&G and the GCGBC will enhance our credibility as a Chapter on the move.

Bob Bandenburg | Duke Energy | N. Kentucky | Electric Utility

Bob is an Account Executive on Duke Energy’s large account management team, and works with many of the largest manufacturing, commercial, and institutional customers in Ohio and Kentucky.  His background is in construction and he is a certified energy manager by the Association of Energy Engineers.  His connections with other large businesses in the area will be helpful to our Chapter.

Katie Austing | Ernst & Young | Cincinnati | Accounting

Katie is a LEED AP BD+C and the Manager of Climate Change and Sustainability Services at the Ernst & Young office here in Cincinnati.  She is an architect by education and earned an MBA at UC.  Given her responsibilities at one of the area’s premier accounting firms, she could bring  fresh insight and perspective to our board.  She is highly recommended by Michael Kady and Tom Kennedy.

Kurt Bouley | Messer Construction | Cincinnati | Construction

Kurt is an inaugural member of the USGBC Cincinnati Chapter and is currently a member of Senior Management at Messer.  He has been a LEED AP since 2001 and is currently Messer’s Green Team Chairman, leading their sustainable efforts in 9 cities and 5 states.  Messer has been a Silver Sponsor for the past 5 years, and Kurt would like to help take our Chapter to the next level.

Michael Berning | Heapy Engineering | Dayton | Engineering

Michael is a Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, and LEED AP BD+C, as well as the Senior Principal and Director of Sustainability at Heapy Engineering.  Their headquarters in Dayton is LEED Platinum certified and Michael’s numerous articles on sustainability have been published in national engineering and sustainability magazines.  In addition, we need representation from the Dayton area on our board.

And for your information, our returning board members with one year left on their two-year term includes:  Beth McGrew, Linda Kerechek, Barb Yankie, Doug Sandhage, Seth Pirie, Stephanie Smith, Bill Gates, and Steve Melink.

Finally, let me say that we should all be proud of the quality of candidates we have attracted this year.  With our ten returning board members, plus five newly elected board members and five newly appointed board members, we will have a twenty-person board that is more experienced, talented, and diverse than ever in our 11-year history.  Thanks to all of you for helping make our board one that is top tier in the Cincinnati (and Dayton and northern Kentucky) region.

Let’s continue to make our Chapter and Ohio a national leader in green buildings and communities.

Thanks again,
